The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for teaching and research in tropical diseases. LSTM aims to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed/resource poorest countries in the tropics and sub-tropics and it delivers this in Malawi through the Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Trust (MLW) - an affiliate of the College of Medicine in Blantyre.
MLW is a highly active and respected research organisation conducting internationally excellent science to benefit human health with a focus on sub-Saharan Africa. It is funded (via LSTM) by a GBP 25 million core grant from the Wellcome Trust Asia-Africa Programme which runs until 2023.
In addition, MLW are about to be awarded an additional Wellcome Trust capital build programme grant of GBP 2.4 million which MLW has used to leverage further strategic investment from its key institutional partners the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and the University of Liverpool to give a total capital build budget of circa GBP 6-GBP 7 million. This budget will be applied to build the Clinical Research Excellence And Training Open Resource building (CREATOR). This will be the only Post Graduate Resource Centre of excellence in Medicine in Malawi sharing 4-5 storeys with research group offices, advanced laboratory and operational support.
We are looking for an experienced Capital Projects Manager to plan and supervise a range of CREATOR construction projects, varying in scope and scale.The ideal candidate must be well-versed in all common construction methodologies and procedures and be able to coordinate a team of professionals from different disciplines to achieve results that are the best value for money. You will plan, organize and oversee the construction processes from end to end on behalf of MLW and its key stakeholders in the project. Your overall goal being to ensure the projects are delivered on time, according to requirements, and without exceeding the budgets.
Ideal candidates will have a Masters level certification in construction or Project Management (Prince 2), coupled with a demonstrable track record as a Constructions Project Manager in organisations with an annual capital spend >GBP 10m. It is vital you can evidence a robust understanding, application and compliance monitoring of project management controls in complex organisations. Your continuous professional development will include professional membership of an internationally recognised surveyors Institute.
