Founded in 1898 and the oldest of its kind in the world, the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for teaching and research in tropical diseases. Through the creation of effective links with governments, NGOs, private organisations and global institutions and by responding to the health needs of communities, LSTM aims to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed/ resource poorest countries in the tropics and sub-tropics.
We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and enthusiastic PDRA to advance the basic and translational research around the Wolbachia/ nematode symbiosis for A?WOL (https://awol.lstmed.ac.uk) and the Filariasis Lab (headed by Professor Mark Taylor - https://www.lstmed.ac.uk/about/people/professor-mark-taylor). This includes drug target identification, mode-of-action of new fast-acting anti-wolbachial drugs and polyomic approaches to further understand the nature of the mutualistic association.
Reporting to the Deputy Director, Professor Steve Ward and to Professor Mark Taylor, you will be responsible for polyomic analytical approaches with a focus on metabolomics/ proteomics/ analytics using LC and LCMS approaches.
The successful candidate will be skilled in LC LCMS analysis and techniques and have experience of metabolomics and/or proteomics. Knowledge of helminth parasitology and/or microbiology is preferable and ideally you will have experience of working with filarial nematodes and Wolbachia or other helminths and intracellular bacteria. You will be qualified at PhD level in analytical sciences and/ or metabolomics and proteomics and have relevant training in Health & Safety legislation and procedures.
