LSTM and CeSHHAR Zimbabwe are seeking an Executive Director with a strong academic background to join our team in this pivotal role.
As the Executive Director, and LSTM Professor this role will provide strategic and academic leadership, business acumen and management of the organisation to ensure CeSHHAR continues to develop as a centre of excellence in public health research and programming.
With strong internal links to LSTM this high-profile role within CeSHHAR has strong support of LSTM’s Senior Management Team. The post holder will build on the existing collaboration with LSTM and other strategic partners.
The successful candidate will demonstrate an internationally recognised record of research, publication, research higher degree supervision and research funding. They will hold a strong record of securing significant research funding through competitive processes from a range of funding agencies (e.g. MRC, Wellcome Trust, NIH, Gates Foundation, NIHR, ESRC, FCOA, USAID, CDC, UN agencies).
Reporting into the CeSHHAR Executive Committee and LSTM Senior Leadership Team, this post calls for an ethical and insightful leader capable of delivering clear strategic guidance underpinned by CeSHHAR’s and LSTM's values and research goals. The successful candidate will foster an inclusive culture focused on achieving excellence across research and programmatic projects.
Key to the success of this role is the post holder’s ability to motivate, support and align diverse teams, drive internationally recognised research, support and develop academic learning as well as collaborate with partners at local, national, and global level to secure research funding.
The successful candidate:
You will have a strong track record in Research Excellence and hands on academic and professional leadership skills; you will invest in the quality of your relationships building effective and meaningful working relationships internally and with partner organisations including local government.
Fundamental to the success of this role is the postholder’s ability to understand, oversee and input in the financial budgeting and fundraising activities in line with scientific and programmatic priorities.
You will be experienced in and understand the importance of ensuring the implementation of an efficient internal control framework and good practice with regards to the identification and management of risk. You will ensure areas such as safeguarding, international research ethics standards and good participatory practice are imbued across the organisation.
