Full Time, Fixed Term Contract until 31 December 2017
The focus of this role will be to assist the PNLTHA design, implement and monitor tsetse control operations as part of a national HAT elimination programme. You will be responsible for data collection, analysis and reporting with a view to establishing the optimal capacity requirements for an effective national team to meet goals and objectives by identifying priority capacity gaps and potential solutions. You may also carry our similar work in other countries across sub-Saharan Africa to support efforts by national programmes to eliminate Gambian sleeping sickness.
To be appointed at PDRA level you must have a PhD in a relevant subject area with extensive field experience in Africa or in another resource-poor setting. It is essential that you have well developed research skills with the ability to present research findings in oral and written format with the ability to achieve agreed research objectives independent of routine supervision. You will have proven communication skills and able to work as an integral and cooperative member of a multi-disciplinary, multi-national research team.
