The Mosquito Microbiome (Dr. Grant Hughes) & AWOL/ Filariasis Labs (Professor Mark Taylor) are recruiting a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to join their teams working on Wolbachia genome projects.
The Mosquito Microbiome & AWOL/ Filariasis Labs based in the Departments of Tropical Disease Biology and Vector Biology at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) investigate Wolbachia-host interactions in nematode and mosquitoes. These teams are recruiting a jointly funded Post-Doctoral Research Associate to investigate the genomics/transcriptomics of Wolbachia in these diverse associations.
With a PhD in Bioinformatics or related genomics discipline, you will be familiar with approaches used for RNASeq and genomics analysis of prokaryotes within eukaryotic hosts. Experience of bioinformatics within a genomics/transcriptomics context is essential to your application as is evidence of working with parasite genomes, especially intracellular bacteria.
Founded in 1898 and the oldest of its kind in the world, the LSTM is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for teaching and research in tropical diseases. Through the creation of effective links with governments, NGOs, private organisations and global institutions and by responding to the health needs of communities, LSTM aims to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed/resource poorest countries in the tropics and sub-tropics.
