Founded in 1898 and the oldest of its kind in the world, the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for teaching and research in tropical diseases. Through the creation of effective links with governments, NGOs, private organisations and global institutions and by responding to the health needs of communities, LSTM aims to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed/resource poorest countries in the tropics and sub-tropics.
The Department of Vector Biology at LSTM is a global leader in the study of the biology of insect disease vectors and at the forefront in the development of novel strategies for vector control, particularly the management of insecticide resistance.
Working directly with one of our key industry partners, we are recruiting a Programme Manager to coordinate and oversee multiple lab and field research studies. These studies support R&D and Market Access activities for the development of vector control products including Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs). Our industry partner operates a private/public collaborative laboratory in West Africa and the Programme Manager will be responsible for the oversight of research activities and staff at this facility. The role will be responsible for the day-to-day management of a range of projects in collaboration with research partners in Liverpool (LSTM and IVCC) and abroad.
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Entomology, vector biology or international public health and have a demonstrable track record of working with research partners in resource-poor settings. You will need to have experience of developing and validating research protocols and be able to demonstrate programme/ project management leadership skills appropriate to a complex academic, training and cultural environment. It is important that you are able to evidence some experience of managing research budgets as well as a track record of having presented at scientific conferences. This is a line-management post, it is therefore important candidates can demonstrate experience and competence in this area.
This is a unique opportunity to work with a key industry partner and be based at LSTM's new state of the art Liverpool Life Sciences Accelerator building.
