Founded in 2005 with a $50.7 million grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), IVCC is a Product Development Partnership (PDP) established as a not-for-profit company and registered United Kingdom charity. It aims to overcome the barriers to innovation in the development of new public health insecticides, and the development of new paradigms for more effective and efficient vector control. This is achieved through investing donor funds in research and development.
Vector control interventions are under threat from the emergence and spread of insecticide resistance, changes in disease transmission dynamics and limitations in the ways that insecticides are currently used. IVCC demonstrates that the PDP business model is effective in bringing together partners in the global chemical and consumer industries and academic research institutions for the development of new public health products. As a result, new products have already been developed and the robust pipeline of new product development programs is growing and diversifying.
IVCC has worked closely with stakeholders since 2005 to create successful partnerships to bring novel active ingredients, formulations and product combinations to market to improve the performance of LLINs and IRS and combat the growing problem of insecticide resistance. In partnership with industry, donors and other stakeholders, we are on track to deliver novel vector control interventions to the market, underpinning a global malaria eradication programme and providing additional tools to fight an array of neglected tropical diseases, saving lives, improving health and increasing the prosperity of some of the poorest communities in the world.
Position Summary and Responsibilities:
Malaria eradication will require vector control tools that address both indoor and outdoor transmission. To this end, IVCC is embarking on a number of parallel project activities with the aim of supporting the delivery of ATSBs (Attractive Targeted Sugar Baits) as a new Product Class for Vector Control.
