IVCC is a Product Development Partnership (PDP) of industry, academia and other public health stakeholders that facilitate the development, delivery and impact of novel and improved vector control tools and solutions in challenged markets to combat the rapidly growing problem of insecticide resistance. Vector control, through LLINs and the use of IRS has been instrumental in cutting global malaria mortality rates by half since 2000. IVCC is supported by funding partners, including the Bill& Melinda Gates Foundation, DFID, USAID, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and UNITAID. We bring together the best minds to create new solutions to prevent disease transmission. By focusing resources and targeting practical scientific solutions we accelerate the process from innovation to impact.
With main funding from Bill and Melinda Gates foundation, we are developing and evaluating analytical surface chemistry techniques for quantitative analysis of insecticides from a given surface, in collaboration with the University of Liverpool. We are currently recruiting an Analytical Chemist who will be responsible for applying analytical chemistry expertise to support IVCC's project portfolio, to include Imaging MALDI-ToF for quantitative analysis of insecticides. We aim to investigate High Definition Imaging MALDI-Ion Mobility Time-of Flight Mass Spectrometry as a complementary quantitative imaging technique that will allow quantification of bioavailable active ingredient on the surface of LLIN, specifically i.e.available for pick up by mosquitoes. To our knowledge Imaging MALDI-ToF has great potential as it not only combines high definition imaging platform, but ion mobility and high-end time-of flight mass spectrometer which gives us increased sensitivity and resolution. This project will be undertaken at the Department of Chemistry in the University of Liverpool under the supervision of Prof. Peter Myers.
To apply, it is essential that you hold a PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry or Material Science, bring expertise in data analysis and interpretation as well as being able to synthesise and critically appraise large volumes of scientific literature. Evidence of designing and executing experimental plans, documenting and reporting key insights in addition to possessing well developed research skills is pivotal to your application. Knowledge of insecticidal chemistries and prior experience in imaging MALDI-ToF method development will be highly advantageous.
