Part Time (50%), Fixed Term appointment for 2 years
Based in Liverpool with International Travel
The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for research in low-resource settings. Through the creation of effective links with governments, organisations and institutions and by responding to the health needs of communities, LSTM aims to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed/resource poorest countries in the tropics and sub-tropics.
We have a vacancy for a Senior Research Associate to join LSTM on an exciting new post, conducting research on the integration and the delivery of HIV and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) care in sub Saharan Africa. The research programme is funded by the National Institute for Health Research for a period of 3 years. Its aim is to build a platform for large-scale research on HIV and NCDs care delivery. This includes building partnerships, designing and implementing early phase studies, and skills training and capacity development in NCDs at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) and at the partner institutions (Tanzania National Institute of Medical Research and the Uganda Research Unit).
Applicants can be clinical or non-clinical, but must have a postgraduate qualification in global health, epidemiology or related field and experience in either intervention studies or population-based epidemiology. The successful candidate will have an understanding of HIV and NCDs in Africa, good skills in contributing to the writing of papers and proposals, be a team player with ability to work in multi-discipline and multicultural environments and have excellent attention to detail. We envisage that you will, in a short-time, be contributing major grant applications and will use the opportunity to build a career in this area.
The post holder will be based in the Department of International Public Health with travel periodically to field sites, and will to contribute to the School's teaching programme.
LSTM has a collegial environment and a strong mentorship culture with support for academic advancement. There are a number of senior epidemiologists and global health researchers, large and growing clinical trials and health economics units, and many other persons from other related disciplines. The successful candidate will be supported, trained, and mentored during their career. As such, we are looking for a person who could be a future research leader in this area.
Applicants are invited to contact Professor Shabbar Jaffar (Shabbar.jaffar@lstmed.ac.uk) for academic enquiries.
