The Faculty of Biological Sciences at LSTM is one of the largest of its kind with a broad portfolio of research and technical assistance activities targeted at improving the control of insect-borne diseases worldwide. The appointed individual will join a diverse group of parasitologists and vector biologists working at the forefront of the field and with a global reputation for excellence.
This exciting post will provide an opportunity for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to work with a team of biologists and chemists (including Scientists at the University ofLiverpool) involved in the discovery and development of novel peroxide drug candidates targeting malaria.
You should have good experience in Organic Chemistry/Medicinal Chemistry and extensive experience in synthetic organic chemistry. You must have the relevant experience to take a leading role in the generation of novel routes of synthesis of peroxide based chemical entities towards the projects milestones and deliverables. It will be equally important that you have experience in endoperoxide synthesis, handling reactive peroxide intermediates. You must also have knowledge of antimalarial drug development. Candidates will also be expected to demonstrate skills and experience relating to Organic Synthesis, purification techniques such as silica gel chromatography and HPLC methods.
We are looking for an individual with excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), well developed research and analytical skills, plus the ability to work as an integral and co-operative member of a multi-disciplinary research team. You must possess excellent time management and organisational skills with the ability to achieve research objectives independent of day-to-day supervision.
