Research Assistant/ Post-Doctoral Research Associate

The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for research in tropical diseases. Through the creation of effective links with governments, organisations and institutions and by responding to the health needs of communities, LSTM aims to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed/resource poorest countries in the tropics and sub-tropics.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Assistant/ Post-Doctoral Research Associate in the Research Centre for Drugs and Diagnostics in diagnostics for the Visceral Leishmaniasis elimination campaign. We are currently enrolling patients for diagnostic evaluation studies in Bangladesh and will extend to India soon. The RA/ PDRA will be travelling to Bangladesh and India for conducting workshops for molecular and antigen tests in Bangladesh and India, and ensuring that the technical staff can conduct testing independently through QA. You will also perform external quality assurance of samples in the UK and analyse data for diagnostic accuracy. You will be involved in writing reports and publications of results and to apply for follow-up funding by writing grant applications.
If you want to be appointed as the Research Assistant, you must possess a MSc, and a PhD if you want to apply for the Post-Doctoral Research Associate; in the biological sciences or a relevant field. The successful candidate will bring rich experience of working in Visceral Leishmania endemic countries (at least 3 years) and of working with qPCR and other molecular diagnostics. You must be able to demonstrate your experience of working in a laboratory, having knowledge in NTDs and publishing in peer review journals. You will be able to communicate effectively, connecting with colleagues across levels, with an ability to work independently as well as be willing to develop further research protocols for funding. You must be able to work with other laboratory groups in India and Bangladesh.
