Founded in 1898 and the oldest of its kind in the world, the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for teaching and research in tropical diseases. Through the creation of effective links with governments, NGOs, private organisations and global institutions and by responding to the health needs of communities, LSTM aims to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed/resource poorest countries in the tropics and sub-tropics. At LSTM, Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) promotes basic and applied research that is needed for alternative strategies to accelerate progress in attaining control and elimination targets within the portfolio of NTD activities. Large-scale funding for NTD comes from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and DFID funded activities.

The post holder in particular will expand links and activities with the Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Trust (MLW) Clinical Research Programme, oversee ongoing implementation and research activities and lead and collaborate with academics in LSTM and MLW to develop cutting edge capacity for NTD research. As a Professor, you will design curriculum, introduce students to the latest research and maintain an international reputation in a specialist NTD subject area. In addition, you will generate grant income, liaise at a high level with external bodies and the NTD stakeholder community and maintain a broad knowledge of up to date research and scholarship. As a line manager, you will manage and mentor a team of academic and support staff whilst articulating and delivering academic vision and leadership at international platforms. The post holder will provide leadership and guidance to other colleagues and make significant contribution to the wider organisation and professional reputation of LSTM.
As a Professor, you must have a PhD or equivalent with extensive knowledge of the subject area informed by substantial current research in the field.
